IdentificationThis is the only species of Trachypachus found in Alberta. The antennae only have scattered stiff setae, lacking dense, depressed pubescence on the outer seven antennomeres. The metacoxae are extended laterally to meet the margins of elytra. Black or very dark piceous, tibiae usually brownish, upper surface shiny brass. Prothorax with three lateral setigerous punctures each side; anterior and posterior margins fringed with short setae. Elytra with varying number (3-12) of irregular rows of punctures, effacing at apex. Length 3.8 to 5.8 mm.
