A scarf made from Gonometa rufobrunnea. Label reads: "Scarf knitted from silk of Gonometa rufobrunnea made by Gerlinde Pahlen of Arnsberg, Germany. Mrs. Pahlen lived in Botswana in the 1990s where she acquired the processed wild silk in Francistown. The yarn was handspun by women in Botswana. The silk is dyed with cochineal from Uitenhage, South Africa, that Pahlen obtained in the 1990s from Dr. Helmuth Zimmermann who worked on biological control of the invasive prickly pear cactus (Opuntia), on which the cochineal scale insect (Dactylopius coccus) feeds. Scarf purchased from Gerlinde Pahlen by Richard S. Peigler in May 2024. It measures 12 cm x 135 cm."
