Borden NumberObRv-1Site Typehunting campDescriptionLocated on a 40m high terrace on the right bank of the Old Horton River channel, approximately 250km ENE of Tuktoyaktuk, in the NWT. The site is located on a 100m long by 100m wide section of the terrace edge, between two gullies. The western gully is approximately 1km long; the eastern gully approximately 50m long. Features at this site include hearths and middens, and artifacts include bone and antler tools, lithic tools and faunal remains (for a complete list of tools, see chapter 3 in the publication, pages 23-90; for a list of faunal remains, see chapter 4 in publications, pages 91-109). Lithic artifacts are made of chert, quartzite and clinker (a locally formed fused shale). The faunal remains include caribou, seal and waterfowl. Many of the artifacts show a strong affiliation with the Lagoon site on Banks Island (OjRl-3). This site is a late spring-summer occupation. In addition to being a caribou hunting camp, this was also a sealing site. In total, 78m square were excavated at this site.
