DescriptionFlint Ridge is one of the largest prehistoric quarry and workshop areas in North America. It is located about 14.5 km (9 miles) east-southeast of the Newark Earthworks in Hopewell Township, Licking County, and Hopewell Township, Muskingum County, Ohio. Flint Ridge flint is part of the Vanport Formation of the Allegheny Group, representing strata that record the transgressions and regressions of a shallow sea that covered parts of the Ohio Valley during the Pennsylvanian period (DeLong 1972.)
