Site Typerock shelter DescriptionLocated in the Lagoa Santa karst north of Belo Horizonte. Human remains (burials), cave paintings and lithic remains have been found. Dates from as far back as 12,000 years have been suggested for occupation of Cerca Grande. Dates from 2004 suggests a time range of approximately 10,000-8,000 years. There are 7 shelters (abrigo) at Cerca Grande. Abrigo 6 (accession number series 970.86) is located 460m from Abrigo 5 and approximately 60m above the lake basin.
