A small army post located at 27°50"S and 48°50"W on the north end of Ida de Sao Francisco de Sul, about 20 km sourth of the border with the state of Parana. Located on a quartz-diorite hill on a small, fairly shallow sandy bay. The climate is semi-tropicla and a dense rainforest covered the island in aboriginal times. A grid of 2m squares was established and an area of 70m squared was excavated with trowels and dustpans, first in arbitrary levels of 2cm, then in arbitrary levels of 10cm.
