Site Typerock shelter DescriptionA Dordogne rock shelter located on the right bank of the Vézère, just above river level. This is the type site for the Magdalenian -- the final West European Upper Palaeolithic industry. First excavated by Edouard Lartet and Henry Christy, the Magdalenian dated from approximately 16,000-10,000 BC. Very numerous carved art pieces have been found with the stone and bone tools.
