Borden NumberMlVm-4Site Typehunting campDescriptionThis site is located approximately 40km north of the Porcupine River, on a point bar on the left bank of Schaeffer Creek at the confluence of a small stream locally known as Dechyoo Njik. The site is in a small grassy clearing about 20m by 15m, and is bound to the north and the east by Schaeffer Creek and to the south by Dechyoo Njik creek. There are two distinct periods of occupation; the first is a pre-contact Klo-kut summer hunting camp, the second, a historic Euro-Canadian site. Features include heartsh, refuse pits, a cache pit and 2 shallow depressions that probably represent the position of historic structures. Artifacts include stone tools, FCR, bone and antler tools, bark industries and faunal remains for the pre-contact occupation, and Euro-Canadian artifacts, including metal implements and glass beads, for the historic occupation. For a complete list of all artifacts, see Farard, 1999.
