Located in San Bernardino County in the Calico Mountains in the Mojave Desert near Yermo, California (NW 1/4, Section 22, T 10 N, R 2 E, San Bernardino Meridian, Yermo 7-1/2" quadrangle). Artifacts from Calico have yielded dates up to 200,000 years, but there is debate as to whether or not the lithic specimens are actually artifacts; they may be ecofacts. Arguments for a natural cause to the artifacts revolve around the fact that no human remains have ever been found in the area, that humans did not have the ability to travel into the Americas that long ago, and that so few of the lithics recovered from Calico can actually be classified into types. The site is located on the Yermo alluvial fan and is located close to the Pleistocene Lake Manix. The site is also located near the Calico Fault, the Yermo Fault and other unnamed faults.
