Bryan/Gruhn Archaeology Collection Read more about this collection »

Site Typeanimal processing DescriptionLocated on an outcrop of KBS tuff in a paleochannel, this site is a cluster of fractured stone within a paleosol unit with a diameter of 5-6m. The artifacts are all recovered from 20-40cm of sediment, but this is believed to be one horizon. There are 9 units, numbered 1-8b (8a, 8b). This may be an Oldowan age butchery site. Lithics consist largely of flkes and broken flakes (Table 3.4 in publication) and faunal remains, including a hippopotamus (Table 3.5 in publication). This site is 1km south of the Kay Behrensmeyer Site (FxJj-1).
