Common NameGlossy Black Idia SeasonalityAdults are on the wing in Alberta in July and August. IdentificationA small (2.4-3.2 cm. wingspan) dull blackish brown with a glossy sheen. Both the forewings and the hindwings are crossed by a series of ill-defined jagged whitish lines. The hindwings are only slightly paler brown than the forewings, and are crossed by the same pale lines. The much larger, paler and broader-winged Idia occidentalis was until recently treated as a subspecies of lubricalis.
