IdentificationIn this species the metatibiae are strongly curved and the posterior lobe of the metepimeron has only a few dark brown hairs. For Alberta species the elytral pattern is distinctive. The epipleuron is entirely orange; the anterior fascia is strongly divided at the suture and runs anteriorly onto the shoulder area; and the posterior fascia is consists of a pair of bilobed spots.

In this species the metatibiae are strongly curved and the posterior lobe of the metepimeron has only a few dark brown hairs. For Alberta species the elytral pattern is distinctive. The epipleuron is entirely orange; the anterior fascia is strongly divided at the suture and runs anteriorly onto the shoulder area; and the posterior fascia is consists of a pair of bilobed spots.
Range This widespread species of temperate eastern North America extends northwest along the northern edge of the prairies to central Alberta. Notes Meaning of name: "of Say" or "Say's". It was named in honour of Thomas Say (1789 -- 1834). Say was the father of American entomology and had described a wide variety of beetles, including various silphids.
