SeasonalityAdults have been collected in May, June, September and October. IdentificationMember of the caudicalis group, (subgenus Feronia). Easily distinguished on shape of prothorax. Black, appendages more or less piceous. Prothorax with short but very strong constriction at base, hind-angles from slightly obtuse to almost acute; basal foveae, sometimes entire base, punctate, lateral carina rudimentary or even absent. Length 10 to 13 mm.

Scientific Name Pterostichus caudicalis Habitat Hygrophilous, usually at shaded borders of eutrophic pools and ponds where soil is soft and organic. Seasonality Adults have been collected in May, June, September and October. Identification

Life History No information available. Conservation Relatively common. Diet Info Both larvae and adults are predatory. Range This species is found in most of United States and Canada. In Alberta this species is recorded from Edmonton and surrounding area, and one record from the southern region north of Lethbridge.
