Draeculacephala prasina

SeasonalityJuly to September (Hamilton & Langour 1987). E.H. Strickland Museum specimens recorded from July and August. IdentificationThe overall colour is yellow below, with green hemelytra and dark green prothorax (Beirne 1956). Like other Draeculacephala species, the dorsal surface of the head is quite flat (Ball 1927). The scutellum is yellow. The head is yellow, never blackish or smokey, and bears four black spots of similar size: two on the apex of the vertex and two anterior to the eyes (Ball 1927). The line running from the eyes to the suture is black and broad (Ball 1927). The head is short and distinctively broader and less triangular than most Draeculacephala, with the exception of D. angulifera (Ball and China 1933). The apex of the vertex is rounded, and in profile the clypeus is much less angular than D. angulifera. The aedeagus bears paired subapical processes, and the shaft is constricted before the expanded apex (Nielson 1968). Very similar to D. noveboracensis, but smaller in size. In the male, the shape of the apodemes of sternite 2 may differ from D. noveboracensis, (Hamilton 1985) but see notes below.

Scientific Name Draeculacephala prasina Habitat Probably similar to Draeculacephala noveboracensis, which lives on grass and sedges in wet prairie (Chandler and Hamilton 2017).
