Workers are ~2.3-3.3 mm in length and are a dull dark grey-brown color (Creighton, 1950). The most characteristic features of Tapinoma are the postpetiole being greatly reduced and the gaster extending forward over the postpetiole, hiding it from view dorsally (Wheeler and Wheeler, 1963).
Life History
Colonies are made up of several thousand workers, and tend to move periodically from one nest site to another.

Diet Info
Omnivorous, but favor rotten fruit and plant sugars. Rarely farm aphids (Wheeler and Wheeler, 1963).
Range
Found throughout North America (Fisher and Cover, 2007).
