Have a smooth and strongly shiny head and thorax (Wheeler and Wheeler, 1963). Propedeum lacking spines and antennal club composed of 3 segments (Holldobler and Wilson, 1990).

Workers are small only about ~1.5mm in length, and are orangish black in colour. Have a smooth and strongly shiny head and thorax (Wheeler and Wheeler, 1963). Propedeum lacking spines and antennal club composed of 3 segments (Holldobler and Wilson, 1990).
Life History Not well known, but have been seen sharing nests with several types of ants, including Lasius, Camponotus and Formica species (Wheeler and Wheeler, 1963). Conservation Not of concern. Diet Info Feed mainly on plant secretions, but are known to eat dead insects and farm aphids. (Creighton, 1950 and Wheeler and Wheeler, 1963). Range Found throughout most of the southern 2 thirds of North America. Rare in the Pacific Northwest. In Alberta there is only one recorded specimen from the Medicine Hat airfield (Sharplin, 1966).
