SeasonalityEarly June to mid July in Alberta, as early as May in Europe. (Razowski 2002) IdentificationThe forewing is yellow and prominently smudged by orange or red on the basal half except for the costa and terminally, especially at the apex. A white crescent is present in the middle of the wing in the post median area that diffusely continues to the inner margin just before the anal angle. The hindwing is very pale grey and there is a prominent reddish scale tuft on top of the thorax. The larva is green with a reddish brown head and other sclerotized parts yellowish green. Life History The larva feeds in a folded or rolled leaf and overwinters as a final instar larva in the leaf litter. Adult females lay eggs singly or in small groups. (Razowski 2002) Conservation Not of concern. Diet Info Polyphagous on deciduous trees and shrubs, most rearing records in Canada are from alder (Alnus sp.). (Prentice 1965) Range Holarctic, In both the Nearctic and Palearctic it is transboreal. (Razowski 2002)
