Araneus trifolium is commonly known as the Shamrock Spider because sometimes the pattern on its abdomen forms a shamrock shape. This female's abdomen is full of eggs, which she will lay and cover with silk. She will then die and the eggs will hatch in the spring. This female was collected from Lady Lake, Saskatchewan and photographed on 20 September 1982. (Source: University of Alberta BioDiTRL online database, accessed Dec. 7, 2015.
