IdentificationCharacterized by small eyes and consequently long genae. Rufous, head darker. Elytra dull from strong, isodiametric microsculpture, 3rd interval with 3 dorsal punctures.

Scientific Name Platidiolus vandykei Habitat On barren river banks among gravel and stones, near the water, at moderate elevations. Identification Characterized by small eyes and consequently long genae. Rufous, head darker. Elytra dull from strong, isodiametric microsculpture, 3rd interval with 3 dorsal punctures. Life History Probably overwinters in both larval and adult stages. Conservation Relatively rare. Diet Info Both larvae and adults are predatory. Range This species is found in Alaska and Montana in the United States, and in western Canada. In Alberta this species is known only from the single specimen taken near Drayton Valley.
