IdentificationBlack, elytra often rufinistic, and only tarsi, extreme tip of palps and extreme base of outer antennal segemnts paler, piceous. Elytra parallel-sided, microsculpture strong, nearly granulate at base. Male with meta-trochanters more or less pointed, about half as long as femora.

Habitat
Among gravel near the edge of rapidly running brooks and rivers, at lower elevations.

Life History
Overwinters in the adult stage.
Conservation
Relatively common.
Diet Info
Both larvae and adults are predatory.
Range
This species is found in northwestern United States and western Canada. In Alberta this species is found in the southern half.
