Exerpt from: Riegert, Paul W. Entomologists of Alberta. Entomological Society of Canada, 1989.
Jack recieved his early education and subsequent training in agriculture, in Nova Scotia. He continued this at the Olds School of Agriculture and then specialized in entomology at the University of Alberta where he gained two degrees. When professor Strickland was absent on military duty during World War II, Jack filled the breach and taught entomology courses (1942- 1944). His principal interest was in public health and from 1943 until retirement he remained with the Entomology Division of the Alberta Department of Public Health. Here he conducted ectoparasite and plague surveys, directed the work of the Division, developed Poison Control Centers, and published some 60 scientific articles, leaflets, bulletins, and pamphlets. From 1953 until his death he was a participating member of the Entomological Society of Alberta. His collection of extoparasites and reprints have been deposited with the Department of Entomology in Edmonton.
