Medical uses: The compounds extracted from the plant have healing properties. Infusion of root can be used as drops for sore ear. Chewing on the root helps heart ailments and lung problems. The plant has also been used as ceremonial fumigant for head trouble, various ailments, deer infection and eyes. Ethno-botanical uses: The leaves are edible raw or cooked. Roman Catholics say that C. rotundifolia is dedicated to Saint Dominic. The Navajo people believed that rubbing the plant on your body would protect you from witches and would protect you while hunting (Moerman 119-120).
