General Description
A colonial, free-floating, globe-shaped aquatic plant that rarely produces flowers and is 0.8-1 mm wide; it has no roots, leaves or stems.
Leaves
The upper surface of the plant bears 1-10 stomata.
Flowers
Two; upper surface; 1 pistillate; 1 staminate. Reproduction is primarily vegetative.
Fruits and Seeds
Inflated; globe-shaped; only one.
Phenology
Flowering rarely; summer - early fall.
