Scientific Name Asparagus officinalis L. Common Name asparagus (Moss, 1983). General Description A herb that develops from a rhizome to bear greenish-yellowish flowers; the stem is 1-3 m tall, highly branched and is leaflike with segments 8-20 mm long (Moss, 1983). Leaves Whitish; scale-like (Moss, 1983). Alternate; triangular shape; 1-5 mm long; no basal leaves (E-Flora BC). Flowers Axillary; one or two on jointed pedicels; petals 3-5 mm long; bell-shaped; greenish white or yellowish; 6 stamens (Moss, 1983). Male and female flowers on different plants (E-Flora BC). Fruits and Seeds Berry; red; 8 mm wide (Moss, 1983). Phenology June to August (JSTOR). Notes 2n=20 (Moss, 1983). Range/Distribution
