A dupatta (shawl) made from tasar silk (Antheraea paphia). Label reads: “Woman’s dupatta (shawl) of tasar silk (Antheraea paphia = A. mylitta) handwoven in West Bengal. The yarns were hand spun and the piece was handwoven. The color of the silk is natural (undyed). This is a vintage piece, probably at least 20 to 30 years old. The repeating brocaded bands make this a Baluchari weaving. The motifs show butterflies on flowers. Purchased by Richard S. Peigler from an internet seller in New Delhi in September 2018. Price paid: US$19.78”.
