Riha made from muga silk (Antheraea assamensis). Label reads: “Riha of muga silk (antheraea assamensis) made in Assam. This is a vintage piece probably at least 20 to 30 years old, purchased by Richard S. Peigler in January 2018 from an internet dealer in New Delhi, who sells vintage textiles. The silk is reeled and the natural gold color. Handwoven and brocaded with typical Assamese motifs. A riha in Upper Assam is called an augron in Lower Assam. See page 85 in the book Textile Tradition of Assam: an Empirical Study, by Dr. Labanya Mazumdar (2013). Price paid: US$19.99”.
