A dupatta (shawl) made from tasar silk (Antheraea paphia). Label reads: "A shawl composed of tasar silk (Antheraea paphia = A. mylitta) wefts and handspun organic cotton warps. This piece was designed and handwoven in late 2017 by Gobardhan Panika of the Dongria Kondha Tribe. He is a master weaver in the village of Kotpad, Koraput District, Odisha (formerly spelled Orissa). He has won national awards in India for his work. The brick color comes from a natural dye made from Indian mulberry (Morinda citrifolia), a tree called aal in India. The dark color comes from iron sulfate. Some wefts in the main field are natural color, reeled and spun tasar silk, and thes extend into the temple motifs. The traditional tribal designs include interlocking temple designs, but is in the fish motif and the phool cheeta chauk (flower leopard seat) motif. Purchased by Richard S. Peigler in April 2019 from internet seller in Washington state. Kotpad Handloom textiles have Geographical Indication® registration (GI). Price paid: US$38.00".
