Pair of ankle rattles made from Gonometa rufobrunnea cocoons. Label reads: "Ankle rattles composed of moth cocoons of Gonometa rufobrunnea (Lasiocampidae), made by Tswana women of the Bahurutshe tribe living near Thamaga in southeastern Botswana. These rattles are worn during ceremonial dances. Purchased in January 2018 by Richard S. Peigler from an internet seller. The cocoons contain gravel, and several cocoons have small holes in their sides where parasitoids exited, probably Chalcididae. See article by R. Peigler & Rolf Oberprieler (2017) in Nachrichten des Entomologischen Vereins Apollo, Volume 38, Number 2-3, Pages 113-120"
