This handscroll painting by Liu Du (1630 - 1670) depicts a palace in a mountain landscape, painted in the style of Li Cheng (919-967), a Song Dynasty painter. This is a typical shan shui ("mountains and water") painting that features trees, mountains, waterfalls, and other natural rock forms. There are two figures on boats in the water.
Inscriptions and Colophons Signed by Liu Du and impressed with 2 artist seals. This scroll is also impressed 4 collector's seals and has an attached colophon by Chen Yuding. Credit Line Gift of Sandy and Cécile Mactaggart
