Handwoven red cotton huipil (woman's traditional tunic or blouse, of Maya origin) made of two panels. Extensive area worked with discontinuous supplementary wefts forming bands of naturalistic and geometric patterns.…
Handwoven red cotton huipil (woman's traditional tunic or blouse, of Maya origin) made of two panels. Extensive area worked with discontinuous supplementary wefts forming bands of naturalistic and geometric patterns. Naturalistic patterns of birds (parrots?), flowers and fruit. Neck opening formed by unsewn area of centre seam; edges of neck opening and arm holes bound with purple velvet. Round patches of same purple velvet are sewn on front and back below neck opening, and two on each shoulder.
