Off-white cotton length of fabric printed with mythological scenes in black; two swatches in blue and green attached to top right corner. Cardboard tags sewn on main sample and smaller swatches printed with name of manufacturer and product information; top and bottom ends finished with a row of serging in ecru cotton thread. Sample shows two full repeats of the design, featuring framed panels and cartouches in the neo-classical style. cartouches show alternately Neptune with his trident riding on a large shell, drawn by four mythical sea horses, with two mermen blowing fantastic conches in the foreground. The other cartouche shows a young man and woman (Eros and Psyche?) dallying among the clouds, with a classical temple in the background. The square panels feature alternately a smithy with putti working on the anvil and the fire, and a landscape with a ploughman greeting a young woman with a cornucopia in a carriage drawn by felines. The scenes are surrounded by drapery, foliage, branches with tendrils, and flower garlands.
