Two-piece belt construction. Overbelt of acrylic. Weaving is finished by braiding the warp yarns into 30, 3-strand braids. Looped through the ends of the braids are 6 pieces of red cord attached to a single cord. Belt…
Two-piece belt construction. Overbelt of acrylic. Weaving is finished by braiding the warp yarns into 30, 3-strand braids. Looped through the ends of the braids are 6 pieces of red cord attached to a single cord. Belt of traditional red colour, with figures, reversible in white and burgundy. Green stripe in centre of each design band. Warp faced fabric; filled areas over plain weave. Design in bands made by picking up warps. Complimentary (reversible) warp patterns. Central design 5 cm wide, 3 stripes border. 2 narrow bands with pick-up design at belt edges, and 2 narrow stripes of white squares on red/green background. Fabric count (warp x filling) 34 x 11 yarns/cm. Belt is 17 cm wide and 88 cm long. Sewn with whip stitch to overbelt. Warps of alpaca; filling yarns of white of brown lambs wool. Coarse warps; heavy filling yarns wrapped around them in soumak type structure. Attached to underbelt is a .7 cm woven ribbon used to tie belt in place. Ribbon with same pick-up patterns as design bands on belt.
