Just off the river floodplain of the Skeena at only 10-15m elevation a. s. l. on huge boulders at the base of a cliff, below an avalanche area. Growing in association with Picea sitchensis, Dryopteris expansa (spiny wood fern), Gymnocarpium dryopteris (oak fern), Oplopanax horridus (devil's club) and various mosses such as Hylacomium splendens, Rhytidiadelphis loreus, and Pogonatum macounii.
