Otto Mueller was one of the main members of the widely known and historically important Brücke (Bridge) group of Expressionist artists active in Germany from 1905 to 1913. Of the approximately 150 prints he produced, only six were woodcuts. The 'primitive' subject of this print is a hallmark of the Expressionists, as is the use of the woodcut printing process, and is undoubtedly a result of Otto Mueller's trip to the south Pacific in 1914.
Title translates to "Girl Between Leafy Plants".
