In the year that he painted 'Peace', Glyde visited England and began to plan an art diploma program for the University of Alberta based on a program at University College, London. He was dedicated to his discipline, and felt that skills had to be built up through meticulous practice. He considered drawing an important basic, and illustrated and erased with equal enthusiasm.
Glyde also introduced mural painting as an advanced course in 1949, setting projects based on historical themes related to Alberta. 'Peace' is one of a number of mythological works Glyde did at this time. Using a technique he learned from fellow artist André Biéler in 1940, he layered tempura paint and glazes on a transparent base, providing a rich depth of color and translucent surface.
