Stone bear carved from single piece of granite polished black with grey texture/unfinished areas on spine, legs, and neck of bear. Bear is attached to rectangular granite plinth with inscriptions and images on each side of the base. East side of base depicts two figures shaking hands dressed in regalia encircled by band that includes text: "Indian Treaty No. 6, 1876". North side of base inscribed with syllabic text and roman orthography text ("we are all related") below a pipe emitting smoke. South side: image of feather staff and related symbolism. West side: inscribed "Sweetgrass Teachings: Humble, Kindness, Sharing, Honesty, Determination".
