In this triptych, the Shogun is in the centre and the magician on the right. The Shogun's sister, Takiyasha, is in the left-hand panel. In the legend, she implores her brother not to accept the magician's advice, but he does not listen to her and the clan is defeated. The frogs in the foreground appear to enact the struggle between the familiar and the supernatural. The tale was a favourite subject for Kuniyoshi throughout his career. - University Collections Artifact File
