The print shows the actor Arashi Rikan II (1788-1837) in the role of the hero, Watōnai (AKA Coxinga), of the kabuki play The Battles of Coxinga. It was published by the Osaka publisher Hon'ya Seishichi in 1833 and is part of a diptych: the other print in the pair shows the actor Nakamura Utaemon III (1778-1838) as Watōnai's ally Kanki.
