Bosse’s print introduces a print series of scenes from the New Testament created by Jacques Callot. Frontispiece explains that the artist did not finish his series before dying. Bosse illustrated his introductory note as though illustrating an epitaph on a tombstone. The text appears on a beautiful plaque flanked with crosses and a cherub which add to this allusion.
